What’s in Insights?
The Insights screen gives you a data-driven view of your finances. Open it from the sidebar (iPad/Mac) or tab bar (iPhone) to see:
- Spending trends over time
- A category breakdown of where your money goes
- Budget performance across categories
- AI-powered spending analysis (when Apple Intelligence is enabled)
Spending Trends
The trend chart plots your total spending across selected periods. Tap any data point to see the exact total for that period.
Use the period selector to zoom in or out:

Category Breakdown
Below the trend chart, a breakdown shows how your spending splits across categories. This answers questions like:
- “How much am I spending on Dining each month?”
- “Is Subscriptions still growing?”
- “What category is driving the increase this period?”
Tap any category segment to open the full transaction list for that category in the selected period.
Budget Performance
For periods where you’ve set budgets, Insights shows how each category tracked against its target. Categories that ran over are highlighted so you can identify patterns across multiple months — not just the current one.
AI-Powered Insights (Apple Intelligence)
With Apple Intelligence enabled, Insights gains additional layers of analysis:
Spending Pattern Analysis
The AI reviews your transaction history and summarises patterns in plain language — recurring spikes, seasonal trends, and month-on-month changes.
Smart Budget Recommendations
Based on your spending patterns, you’ll receive tailored recommendations such as:
- Categories where spending is trending upward
- Budget targets that may be unrealistic given your actual behaviour
- Subscriptions or recurring expenses you might not have noticed
Anomaly Detection
Wallet Savvy flags transactions that are significantly higher than usual for their category. Anomalies are surfaced in the Insights view so unexpected charges don’t slip by unnoticed.

Tips for Getting the Most from Insights
- Categorise everything — uncategorised transactions are grouped together and hard to analyse. Keeping categories clean makes the breakdown genuinely useful.
- Log transactions promptly — Insights is only as accurate as your data. The more complete your transaction history, the better the AI analysis.
- Compare periods — switch between 1M, 3M, and 1Y to spot trends you’d miss looking at a single month.
