Adding Transactions

Overview
Transactions are the foundation of Wallet Savvy. Every expense and income source you log feeds into your budgets and the Insights view, giving you an accurate picture of your financial health.
Adding a Transaction
On iPhone & iPad
- Tap the + button in the Transactions view
- Choose Expense or Income
- Enter the amount, description, and date
- Select a category to link it to a budget
- Tap Save
On Mac
- Press ⌘ N or click New Transaction from the File menu
- Fill in the amount, description, date, and category
- Press Return or click Save
On Apple Vision Pro
Tap the + button in the floating toolbar. The transaction form appears in a sheet you can position anywhere in your space.
Transaction Fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Amount | The transaction value — positive for income, positive for expenses (type determines direction) |
| Type | Expense or Income |
| Description | A short label (e.g. “Supermarket”, “Salary”) |
| Date | Defaults to today; tap to change |
| Category | Links the transaction to a budget category |
| Notes | Optional free-text field for extra detail |
Editing a Transaction
Tap or click any transaction in the list to open it for editing. Change any field and tap Save.
Deleting a Transaction
- iPhone/iPad: Swipe left on the transaction and tap Delete
- Mac: Select the transaction and press Delete, or right-click and choose Delete
Deleting a transaction immediately updates your budget totals and Insights charts.
Browsing Transactions
The Transactions view shows all your records in reverse-chronological order. Use the filter and search controls to narrow down by:
- Date range
- Category
- Transaction type (expense / income)
- Keyword search
Importing Transactions
If you have historical data in a spreadsheet, you can import it all at once via CSV. See Import & Export for details.
