Recall
Screenshot Search for Mac
Screenshots
Find any screenshot in seconds
Recall turns your screenshot library into a fully searchable archive. Every PNG and JPG you drop on your Desktop or save to ~/Screenshots is automatically indexed — text extracted, content tagged, source app identified — so you can find it the moment you need it.
Type a word that appeared in a screenshot and Recall surfaces it instantly, no matter how long ago you took it.
Key Features
Full-Text OCR Search (Recall Pro)
Recall uses Apple Vision to extract every word from every screenshot the moment it lands in a watched folder. Search for code snippets, error messages, web addresses, price figures — anything that was on screen. Results appear as you type. Requires the one-time Pro unlock.
Smart Auto-Tagging
Apple Vision classifies each screenshot automatically. Content tagged as code, receipt, web, error, or map shows up in dedicated sidebar filters so you can drill in without searching at all.
Source App Detection
Recall reads macOS Spotlight metadata to identify which app produced each screenshot. The sidebar groups screenshots by source app — Safari, Xcode, Terminal, whatever — so you can filter your library by context.
Date-Grouped Gallery
Your screenshots are displayed in a fluid grid, grouped by Today, Yesterday, This Week, and by month. Switch between newest-first, oldest-first, or alphabetical order with a single click.
Quick Look
Select any screenshot and press Space to preview it full-size with Quick Look — the same fast preview you get throughout macOS.
Archive & Organise
Screenshots you’re done with can be archived in one click (or in bulk using selection mode). Archived files are hidden from the main library but never deleted until you say so.
Menu Bar Access
Recall lives in your menu bar for fast access without switching apps. Open your library, search, and get back to work.
Launches at Login
Recall registers as a login item so it’s always running in the background, watching for new screenshots the moment they appear.
Watched Folders
Recall monitors two folders automatically:
~/Desktop~/Screenshots
Any PNG or JPG saved to either location is picked up, processed, and indexed — no manual imports required.
Pricing
Recall is free to download. The gallery, auto-tagging, source app detection, Quick Look, archiving, and menu bar are all free.
Full-text OCR search is unlocked with a one-time in-app purchase of $9.99. Pay once, search forever — no subscription.
Privacy
Everything happens on your Mac. Recall never connects to the internet. OCR, image classification, and database storage all run locally using Apple’s on-device frameworks. Your screenshots never leave your device.
